Case Study - Ravenspoint Centre

The Ravenspoint Centre, South Lochs, Isle of Lewis is run by the local community to provide vital services to the residents of the South Lochs area, visitor attractions and also provide accommodation to visitors/tourists.  The facilities include a community shop, a tea room, a 14 bed hostel, a museum and the Centre also plays host to the Angus Macleod archive. With all this under one roof, the Ravenspoint Centre certainly is a unique place!

The Centre contacted Live Hebrides for advice on how they could improve their existing web presence. Their existing web site no longer fitted with what the centre had to offer due to the ever expanding facilities on offer, they also required a cost effective solution for a new web site and wanted to be able to take control of their own web site without the need for any specialist computer or web design skills.

At the initial meeting with the team at Ravenspoint, their Live Hebrides advisor helped them to explore the various options open to them and it was agreed that the way forward would be to put in place a brand new web site that they themselves could update. Various solutions were explored but eventually they agreed to create a “self build web site”. Using a simple web site template provided by Live Hebrides they changed the design, layout, images, text etc, added their own pages, removed the ones they didn't want so they had a web site that looked the way they wanted and had the information they wanted. The software used was free of charge, which made it even better!

Ravenspoint put together a very good web site and following further meetings and exchanges of emails with their Live Hebrides advisor for guidance, the result is a fully functioning web site which they can update easily, at anytime, from any computer which has access to the Internet and the only cost incurred by them was time ie. Planning and actually putting the web site together.

The Ravenspoint Centres' new web site doesn't only promote the Centre, its accommodation and all its facilities but also acts as a resource of information such as the latest news, minutes of meetings and upcoming community events and activities in South Lochs.
